The Year 9 girls' team at Carmel College, Darlington, made an outstanding start to their Sisters in Sport Shield campaign with a fantastic victory over Penistone Grammar School.
Playing their first match in the national competition, the girls faced a strong Penistone Grammar School side but produced a superb performance from start to finish. Their hard work, determination and teamwork paid off as they secured an impressive 42-24 win, earning their place in Round 2 of the competition.
The team demonstrated great resilience and skill throughout the match, reflecting the commitment and positive attitude that are hallmarks of sport at Carmel College.
Several players received special recognition for their performances:
- Opposition's Player of the Match: M. Parnaby
- Coaches' Player of the Match: E. Faram
- Players' Player: P. Bowes-Virtue
A particularly special mention goes to Phoebe, who is currently in Year 7 and stepped up to play alongside the Year 9 team. Competing against players two years older is an achievement in itself, but Phoebe also impressed her teammates enough to be voted Players' Player of the Match.
The victory means Carmel College has successfully progressed to the next round of the Sisters in Sport Shield, where the team will look to build on this excellent start.
