Year 10 Students Take to the Water on River Tees

Carmel College is celebrating a fantastic outdoor learning experience, as Year 10 Sports Studies students enjoyed an exciting kayaking session on the River Tees. Led by Miss Bright and Mr Mitchell, the trip gave students the opportunity to develop new skills while experiencing a unique and active environment beyond the classroom.

Carmel College is celebrating the dedication and leadership of its students, as Year 11 pupils—soon to become Year 12—returned to college to take part in safeguarding and peer mentoring training. Giving up part of their well-earned break following GCSE exams, the students demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting others and contributing to the college community.

From Perth to Darlo – Welcome Back to Carmel!

We are delighted to once again welcome teaching students from The University of Notre Dame Australia, who have travelled all the way from Perth, Western Australia, to continue their teaching practice and experience the English education system. This year, we are pleased to introduce Miss Therese Topliss, who specialises in English, Drama and RE, and Miss Laura Jenkins, whose specialisms are Geography and History.

Carmel Crowned Trust Champions at Athletics Championships 2026

Carmel College is celebrating a remarkable achievement after being named Overall Trust Champions 2026 at the Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust Athletics Championships, held at Middlesbrough Sports Village. The event brought together students from across the Trust, including Our Lady and St Bede Catholic Academy, St Michael’s Catholic Academy, St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College, and English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College, for a day of sport, community and shared values.

Team Carmel Crowned Darlington Town Cricket Champions!

What an incredible achievement for our brilliant Year 7 and 8 girls, who were crowned Darlington Town Cricket Champions after an unbeaten run throughout the entire tournament! Competing against four other schools, the team were outstanding from start to finish, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and composure across a series of highly competitive matches. Their consistency and passion truly set them apart.

Camino Creativity at its Finest!

A huge congratulations to our amazing Carmel students who recently attended the El Camino awards ceremony after taking part in a very special writing competition.  As part of the challenge, students were asked to write a letter imagining the life and journey of a pilgrim walking the El Camino over 500 years ago. This creative task brought together history, faith and storytelling in a truly inspiring way, and our students rose to the occasion with fantastic imagination and thoughtfulness.

Tomorrow, our fantastic Year 10 students at Carmel College begin their Work Experience Week 2026, and we could not be prouder of them! From banking to baking, builders to butchers, and from classrooms to care homes, our students are stepping out beyond the classroom and into the world of work. This exciting opportunity will allow them to develop new skills, build confidence and gain invaluable real-world experience.

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Success in Swaledale

Our Year 10 students have just returned from an incredible Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) practice expedition in the stunning surroundings of Swaledale near Reeth—and what an experience it has been! Thirty students took on the challenge with fantastic determination, resilience and teamwork, navigating their way through the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Throughout the expedition, they supported one another every step of the journey, demonstrating the positive attitude and strong team spirit that defines the Carmel College community.

Team Carmel Compete in English Schools Track & Field Cup

Yesterday, Team Carmel proudly took to the track at Monkton Stadium for the first round of the English Schools Track & Field Cup, with an impressive 60 students from Years 7–10 representing the college. It was a fantastic day of competition, with outstanding performances across the board. Our students demonstrated incredible determination, teamwork and school spirit, rising to the challenge against some of the strongest schools in the region. The atmosphere throughout the event was electric, with every athlete giving their all and supporting one another.

There’s been plenty of excitement at Darts Club this week, with some seriously impressive throwing on display! A huge congratulations to Caolan and Kian, who both achieved brilliant 180 scores — a fantastic accomplishment that delighted everyone watching. Their focus, skill and determination really stood out and showed just how much progress is being made at the club.
