The intent of the science department is to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding, improving our pupils' "science capital"; to develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them; to equip our pupils with the scientific skills required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
The science curriculum is designed so that the fundamental knowledge and skills are introduced early and then revisited regularly throughout the pupils' time here, strengthening their retrieval of key knowledge and extending it as they move through the school by using increasingly detailed models and theories of the concepts involved. Topics are sequenced so that they logically link together and build upon each other, term-by-term and year-by-year.
