This morning, our incredible Stewardship Student Group stepped into the council chambers at Darlington Town Hall to deliver their Active Travel Ambassador Pitch — and they were absolutely outstanding!

After months of research, planning, and collaboration with Lou from Team Modeshift, our students confidently presented their vision to secure funding for the Carmel Ride & Stride Campaign.

They shared real data gathered from our community, including:

  • Surveys of student and staff travel habits
  • Analysis of car parking and bike storage
  • A focus on reducing congestion around The Headlands

They then revealed a creative and practical action plan featuring:

  • Life-size student cut-outs at key entrances to encourage “park and stride”
  • A rewards breakfast for students who choose active travel
  • A powerful message about caring for our environment and local community

We are thrilled to announce that they were successful in their bid, securing £200 to bring their ideas to life!
The judging panel praised their professionalism, passion and confidence — a true credit to Carmel College.

As Laudato Si’ reminds us:
“The earth is our common home… and we are called to care for it.”
This is exactly what our students are doing: taking responsibility, leading change, and living out our mission with pride.

We are so proud of every one of you and we cannot wait to see these ideas in action. (And we’re sure our neighbours on The Headlands and Clare Avenue will be too!)

Parents & Carers — How You Can Support

To help us reduce congestion and care for our community, please:
• Park a short walk away from school
• Avoid idling outside the gates
• Encourage walking, cycling, or public transport whenever possible

Together, we can make a real difference.
