What an incredible weekend for Team Carmel! On Saturday, our U13 boys travelled to Bradford Grammar School for the National Schools Table Tennis Area Finals, and the day could not have gone any better. As reigning County Durham champions, the team faced tough opponents from across the North East and Yorkshire, but they rose to the challenge with outstanding skill, composure and determination.

The group stages saw three superb victories: 6–2 against South Hunsley, 5–3 against Silverdale, and 5–3 against Bradford Grammar. These brilliant performances placed the boys at the top of their group and secured their spot in the semi-finals, where they continued their winning streak with a confident 6–2 victory over The Grammar School at Leeds.

The final brought even more excitement with a dramatic rematch against Bradford Grammar. Both teams pushed themselves to the limit, and after a tense series of games, the match ended 4–4 overall. In a nail‑biting finish, Team Carmel were crowned NORTH EAST CHAMPIONS, edging the result 15–13 on games won. This incredible achievement now sends them through to the National Finals in Wolverhampton this April.

Every player contributed something special. Nethan impressed with his clever serves and strong play. James was outstanding, winning all 10 of his matches 3–0 without dropping a single game. Demi showed unwavering determination and focus, while Nye displayed excellent technique and produced some fantastic rallies. Above all, the boys demonstrated exceptional teamwork, supporting and encouraging one another throughout the entire tournament.

We are unbelievably proud of Team Carmel — your hard work, talent and togetherness have shone brightly. Bring on the National Finals. We are so proud of you!
