Carmel College is delighted to be part of the National Centre for Computing Education network of Computing Hubs. The services available from the NCCE are a great opportunity to develop computing skills, techniques, curriculum and pedagogy.
We are the local face of the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE). As one of 33 computing hubs we have the pleasure of engaging with computing teachers and those that are interested in teaching it in the future.
The NCCE, managed by STEM Learning, has a vision of providing a world-class computing education for every child in England. At present, there is a shortfall in pupils having the opportunity to take GCSE Computer Science and this has a ‘knock-on effect’ with those that study computing subjects at university or in higher level apprenticeships. There is also a diversity gap that needs to be closed involving gender, ethnic groups and neurodiversity. By involving many pupils in this new and exciting subject, we hope to shrink this gap.
Our region covers the local authority areas of Middlesbrough, Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland, and Richmondshire. Our region has a rich and varied digital community with many businesses and services that either use computing extensively or provide specific high-tech solutions to those requiring it.
