It was a brilliant night for Team Carmel as our U13 girls kicked off their English Schools Football Association Cup campaign with a performance full of heart, determination and real quality. Facing Prince Henry’s Grammar School in the first round, the team rose to the occasion and delivered a display that showcased both their talent and their team spirit.

Carmel started the match with real intent, creating a number of early chances and putting pressure on the opposition defence. Despite their strong start, the Prince Henry’s goalkeeper produced a series of outstanding saves to keep the score level. The first half was fast, competitive and end‑to‑end, with both teams playing some excellent football, but the sides went into the break locked at 0–0.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Carmel pushing forward relentlessly and working tirelessly across the pitch. Chance after chance was met by yet more inspired goalkeeping, but the girls refused to be discouraged. Their resilience and determination were clear as they continued to battle for the breakthrough.

And then, in the final minute, came the moment they had been fighting for. Darcey found herself in the box with the ball at her feet and showed fantastic composure to slot home the winning goal, securing a dramatic and fully deserved 1–0 victory for Carmel.

Every player contributed to an incredible team performance, and the whole squad should be immensely proud. There were several standout displays — Poppy was excellent throughout, while Pennie and Ava P made a strong impact from the bench — but Player of the Match was awarded to Darcey Thompson for her tireless work in midfield and her match‑winning finish.

Carmel College now progresses to the next round of the ESFA Cup, and excitement is already building for what comes next. A huge well done to the team — we can’t wait to see them continue their journey.
