What a night for our Public Speaking Club! Two teams from Carmel College in Darlington travelled to Newcastle to compete in the latest round of the ESU Churchill Public Speaking Competition — facing some exceptionally strong schools, including last year’s national finalists.

Despite the tough competition, our students spoke with clarity, confidence and real maturity. With only three qualification placesavailable, we are thrilled to announce that two of those places went to Carmel — meaning both teams have secured a spot in the Regional Final this March!

A huge well done to:

  • Valentina, who explored “Is homework helpful?”
  • Vaibhavi, who presented on “How will artificial intelligence and technology affect future jobs, and what skills should students focus on?”
  • Ivy, Claudia and Jacob, who all took on key speaking and questioning roles — with Jacob brilliantly stepping into two roles on the night.

An incredible display of resilience, teamwork and quick thinking. Bring on the Regional Final — Team Carmel is ready!
