Year 7 MFL Spelling Bee

This year we are once again participating in the Modern Foreign Language Spelling Bee – a country-wide MFL competition for Year 7 students . The competition is open to all Year 7 students who want to push their French skills to the max!

Practice sessions and trials take place for those interested on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes in ML4 and all are welcome and aim to get students fully prepared for the regional competition in March. If you think you’ve got what it takes and want to represent the college and MFL department at this prestigious event, why not come along? Maybe you too could be flying the flag for Carmel at this year’s competition!

Year 9 MFL Visit to Newcastle University

On 9th October, a group of Year 9 students visited Newcastle University to find out what doing languages there is like…

The group not only got a tour of the university but were also asked to put their knowledge to the test, producing a French cartoon and record the commentary. They then got to try out the state of the art interpretation labs before giving two new languages (Russian and Arabic) a go!

The group was very fortunate to speak to language students from Newcastle and Northumbria University who were telling them everything about languages and their university lives – from what it’s like to live abroad for a year to what their university bedrooms are like!

The day was hugely successful and all students were very positive about their experience! And of course the students were an absolute credit to themselves and the college in their willingness to get involved and impeccable behaviour! Even Mr Parkinson enjoyed himself…

The cartoons produced bythe group on the day will soon be available for viewing online… watch this space!
